The whole point of a bond is to benefit both witch and monster. It's supposed to minimize the monster's feral impulses, make them easier to resist.

This is the first full moon she and Lapis have shared since they became bonded, and Peridot is not sure she's feeling any of those benefits yet. She feels just as agitated as ever, just as on edge. She's lurking up in her room, a victorian bedroom turned out of control greenhouse, pacing back and forth in front of the bedroom window as she keeps a mindful eye on her hoard of plants. She'd contacted Lapis by Watch, asked her to come up to keep her company. Which is frankly an embarrassing request to have to make, but for some reason it's the only thing that she can think that would make her feel any better right now.

Her eyes keep flicking to the door, ears pricked up for the sound of footsteps. It's totally dark in the room except for the moonlight filtering in through the bay window.

"What, like... Just stand here?" Peridot says, flattening her ears a little. "For how long?"

"I mean, we don't have to just stand here. It'd probably be hard to ignore your dragon-y side if we just did that." Look at her, trying to be considerate even though she's the one foisting this on Peridot to begin with.

Actually, she's kind of wishing she maybe had a tambourine or something. At least it'd take more attention off of said thing.

"Hmmmm," Peridot rumbles, ears flattening a little further. "Well, if you're serious about keeping me out here, you're going to have to suggest something, because all I want to do right now is go back in there and lurk."

"Look, it's pretty hard to come up with things to do now that I can't do anything that I used to be able to do." She's trying very hard. "We could make some morps?"

"Eeehhhh..." Lukewarm reaction. Peridot isn't feeling particularly inspired at the moment. She's not even sure she could fake it.

"I wish we had a TV here," she moans, sagging her wings. "Then we could just watch some Camp Pining Hearts. That would be PLENTY distracting."

"We could make our own fanfiction of it. That might be fun. And it's even something we've done before!" And it's something they both like too, so that might work? "Or maybe we could try and turn it into a book here? Then we don't need the TV."

Peridot blinks, and then taps her chin thoughtfully with one claw. "That is an intriguing proposition that I think I would like to explore further when the moons are not a full," she muses. "This entire world has no idea what it's missing."

"You're making this real difficult, you know. C'mon, Peridot! You've gotta have something to help me out here." Please, you're cracking her. She's not really an ideas sort of Gem to begin with!

"Uh, you're the one that's supposedly trying to distract me," Peridot says dryly, looking rather unsympathetic. She folds her arms at her chest, frowning sulkily. "I just wanted to spend time with you in my lair..."

"I wouldn't exactly call it a "lair"." Besides, that's so cliche and supervillian-y. "And wow, I'm flattered that you want to keep me in an enclosed space for the entire night."

Which, for the record, she doesn't sound entirely upset about that last bit.

"I'm part dragon now. You call the place where a dragon keeps it's hoard a lair, it's just proper terminology!" she protests. "You're lucky I even let you in there, most people wouldn't even be allowed within five feet of the door on a night like this."

"Well... As long as you're not calling it the Gem cave, I guess I can live with it." She crosses her arms. "And what do you mean lucky? We're best friends. Of course you let me in there."

"See, you take it for granted that you're allowed in there because you're my best friend," Peridot explains, trying to rein in the stupid grin that threatens to spread across her face at Lapis calling her that. "But I could very easily forbid it, if I wanted to. Which I don't."

Lapis see's Peridot's stupid grin forming... and shoves a hand right into her face.

"You couldn't stop me from getting into your room in the first place even if you wanted to." Her tone is flat and confident, but Peridot should know by now that she's just screwing around. Especially with Lapis being a connoisseur of the fine art of Personal Space for such a long time.

"I absolutely could," Peridot counters, laughing and swerving to avoid Lapis's hand. "I'm an incredibly powerful dragon now! I can keep people out-- or bring people in-- to whatever places I want!"

"I'd like to see you try! What are you gonna do, pick me up?" There's no way Peridot could. She's too short. Lapis laughs in return, trying to playfully swat at Peridot again, though this time it's in an effort to muse her hair up.

"Nyah--!!!" She squawks indignantly, and then grits her teeth and makes a weird noise as Lapis totally fucks up her 'do. "Nooooooo, it takes me forever to get it in the right shape here!" she says plaintively, trying to muss it back up into usual bizarre triangle peak once Lapis's hand withdraws.

Then she points an accusatory claw at her. "You are messing with a force far more powerful than you could possibly comprehend!" Peridot says dramatically. "I could absolutely pick you up if I wanted to! Dragons used to kidnap people all the time, there are countless legends about it in the books here!"

Lapis is laughing so hard she's making snorting noises at Peridot and her dramatics. Actually, hang on, she might be wheezing, just a bit, leaning slightly forward and clutching her stomach.

She stops, long enough to open her mouth to say something.

And promptly starts laughing and snorting again. The thought of Peridot actually managing to pick her up is hilarious. She's too tall? Her arms and legs would drag on the ground!

Peridot frowns at her, unamused by Lapis's lack of faith in her abilities. She makes a small, dragony growl. And then, when Lapis is doubled over, she lunges forward, grabs her by the waist with both hands, and deadass lifts her up over her head like it's absolutely nothing.

She stops laughing once she's hoisted into the air.

Then realizes it's exactly how she pictured, and the fact that she can just almost touch the ground again sets her off once more, only this time even harder.

She's only ever been hoisted up by larger Gems, and this is a hilarious first.

Peridot just listens to her laugh for a moment. It's sort of infuriating, that she's not even a little bit impressed that she's able to do something like this now. But at the same time, it's... She's not sure how to explain how it makes her feel, actually. It makes her chest feel all warm and bubbly, hearing her laugh like that. Like the way they used to riff off each other back at the barn, and yet altogether different at the same time.

Without really thinking about it, she changes. Like it's second nature. Suddenly Lapis isn't touching the floor anymore, because Peridot is in her larger true dragon sized form now. She's basically Bismuth sized now. She keeps holding the other gem up, and blinks at her smugly.

Peridot shapeshifts, Lapis makes a "Whoa!" sound, because this means she's being jostled around, and she's still getting used to the fact that she can't just simply escape any situation she needs to with wings she no longer has.

In the back of her head, she wonders if maybe she could learn teleportation.

Lapis looks down at Peridot. Her smug face isn't doing her any favours. And quite frankly, the sheer weirdness of it all? She's back to laughing, though she's also reclining a little more in Peridot's grip due to the fact she can't actually move this way or that without the risk of Peridot actually dropping her.

"Pffft! Haha! This is so stupid!"

She's definitely having a good time, though.

The dragon looks a bit indignant, mild annoyance flitting across their bond. "Hey! Can't you act at least a little bit impressed?" Peridot huffs indignantly, fluttering her wings. Lapis's uncontrollable amusement is hard to avoid being overtaken by, but her dragon sense of pride is every bit as difficult to quash.

The annoyance isn't even noted. Sorry, Peridot, it's just a drop in the bucket.

"I've been grabbed and lifted by a lot of Gems! I never thought I'd ever get-" She makes an ugly sounding snort. "Grabbed and lifted by you! A Peridot of all Gems!"

Peridot switches from holding Lapis over her head to holding her out in front of her by grasping her under the arms, like someone incorrectly lifting a cat.

"Wow. I thought you knew better than to estimate a gem's abilities based off of her cut," she sniffs, sticking her snout up and glancing sidelong at Lapis in what is clearly supposed to be a mockery of Pearl. The slight grin twitching at the corners of her mouth is telling, though.
