Envoy Endeavors (rough draft)

Who: Peridot
What: The Priestess sends Peridot on a mission into Stars territory to try and uncover the truth of what happened to the murdered peace envoy.
Where: Stars territory/Gods Wood
When: April 25th
Warnings: Nothing TOO TOO graphic, but there's mentions of murder, and uh, decaying human corpses?

It’s a bit of a surprise to Peridot when the Priestess contacts her. Not that she’s been behaving in a particularly seditious manner, or anything of that sort, but… Well, their first meeting hadn’t exactly gone swimmingly, and Peridot doesn’t exactly make any waves as Fellden’s most gung-ho Moon patriot. Her focus from day one has been almost exclusively on the Decay, and trying to discover new ways of combating it

There are exceptions, of course; outliers from her fixation upon the decay of the world. Case and point: the mystery of the ill-fated peace envoy, murdered some time before she’d arrived here and heavily whispered about in the time since. Lucina had spoken of some rumors regarding the matter during the Temple's last mandatory audience, and Peridot had started forming some theories (that ADMITTEDLY, probably dipped into the territory of wild speculation) as a result. She just hadn’t expected the Priestess to catch word of it, much less take her concerns seriously and task her with leading an investigation.

Peridot jumps at the chance, of course. If her suspicions hold any water, and it turns out that the Emperor never even met with the diplomats? Even she can see the massive implications such a revelation could have. Granted, she’s completely lacking in any practical experience when it comes to the investigation of crimes, but let it never be said that Peridot is the sort of gem who would let something as trivial as lack of qualifications stop her from trying something. She’s seen, like... A handful of mystery programs on TV? More than enough to get the basics, surely. It’s fine. She’s absolutely got this.

-------------

She's sent off with equipment to suit the job: a short distance teleportation bracelet to speed up travel, along with a map of the envoy's route, and an enchantment added to her glasses to allow her to see trails of residual magic. She makes sure to pack her own bag as well, stashing a satchel full of odds and ends meant for jotting down information and collecting evidence. Paper, writing implements, a few handkerchiefs for handling objects without touching them directly. Once preparations are handled, she departs.

Taking the teleportation system to the Medii military base, Peridot heads out from there on foot, making for the border. The country side still bears the scars of the battle that took place a few months ago, remnants of violence which set her ill at ease, so she skips past these place where she can, usually giving the area a cursory glance before blipping ahead another mile or so.

Fast forward a few hours, past all the tedious walking and stressful deliberation. She'd had to make a choice between two trails, which hadn't been easy. The first-- the trail which she did NOT choose to follow-- appeared to lead further into Stars territory. That might have been worth pursuing, but given that the incident took place several months ago, that trail and it's divergent twin were both on their last legs, and she could tell just by looking that she was only going to have time to investigate one. So she'd opted for the far more suspicious looking path, which has lead her to her current location: the very edge of the Gods Wood.

Why an envoy sent to parlay with the Emperor would take such an abrupt detour off the beaten path towards a neutral area like the Gods Wood, Peridot isn't sure. Answering that lingering question is exactly why she'd opted to come in this direction, and it's a choice that's already beginning to bear results. She can see ahead that the trail halts, lingering over a large patch of earth where the vegetation has been torn up, the ground showing signs of significant disturbance within the last few months.

Peridot steps forward to investigate more closely, but as she gets closer she’s abruptly stymied by what is easily the most overwhelming smell to ever hit her nose. It hits her like a punch to the face. She falters and throws an arm up to block it, reeling momentarily from the intensity of it; it’s hard to describe, somehow sweet and putrid at the same time, triggering a visceral reaction that makes her want to retch, despite having not eaten anything in the last few days. The gem staggers over to a nearby tree and props herself against it while she tries to collect herself. She peers venomously at the spot from over her forearm, which remains pressed over her nose and mouth. There's no mistaking it: that's the smell of human corpses. A stench that she'd been blissfully unfamiliar with, before she showed up in Fellden.

Peridot shakes her head and gags, pushing back off the tree again to fix a sharp gaze on the patch of Earth. There's a very big part of her that wants to just draw the reasonable conclusion about what's under there, and leave it at that. Like, what are the odds that there could be a bunch of random, non-peace envoy related corpses at the end of the trail she's been following? Pretty low, she hopes! But then on the other hand… This might be the only chance anyone will have to investigate. It would be foolish not to confirm while she has the chance.

She just wishes confirmation didn’t have to come at the expense of getting up herself right close to a bunch of reeking organic rot.

Groaning piteously to herself, Peridot steps closer and starts to scuffle around in the dirt. For the first time in her life, she finds herself wishing desperately that Jasper were here with her. A physically capable gem, who also lacks a sense of smell? That would pretty much be the ideal person to handle the unsavory task of exhuming bodies from an unmarked grave. And hey, as long as she's in the business of wishing... She also desperately wishes she’d thought to bring along something to dig with! She’s forced to delve into the earth by hand, which is WAY less than ideal, considering what it is that she’s having to dig up. She keeps pausing to gag between scooping up fistfuls of dirt, the smell getting more intense the deeper she goes.

It takes a while, but eventually she digs deep enough to find exactly what she’s expecting, in the worst possible way. As she goes to scoop up another fist full of dirt, her fingers brush against… Someone else's fingers. She yelps in disgust and yanks her hand back quickly, shaking it off with a shudder before leaning forward to peer into the hole with extreme distaste. Sure enough, there's a human hand there. Albeit one that is in an advanced state of decay. So that's what grave worms look like.

She hates this. Hates hates hates this. But she keeps digging, uncovering just enough to confirm that there's a ragged stump at the neck where the head should be. So that tracks! It would be inaccurate to say that she's satisfied with her findings, but that does give her the information she needs. Letting out another gurgling groan, Peridot starts filling the grave back in so she doesn’t have to look at (or smell) the body anymore.

She backs off to think for a bit, then. Far enough off that the smell is at least a little less intense, but also so she can still keep an eye on the scene. She gets her compass out in the meantime, mindlessly snapping some reference photos of the scene. It would be far more ideal, she thinks, if she could positively ID the corpse, or somehow verify that the number of bodies in the grave matches the number of people in the envoy. Thing is, she is not about to commit to excavating eight entire human bodies by hand. No goddamn way. Which... leaves her at something of a dead end.

Finding some headless bodies outside of the woods doesn’t really prove anything, beyond the fact at least one of the group-- if that is a member of the ill-fated party-- never made it to the Court of Stars. Like, sure, maybe it’ll give that one human's family some peace of mind, to know where the remains are. That’s great. Whatever. What it doesn’t do is help provide any actionable evidence to the Priestess. It’s not enough to help push for the peace between the factions which Peridot longs to help facilitate.

Grumbling, the gem stares sullenly off into the tree line of the Gods Wood, shoulders slumped, focused on nothing in particular. That’s when she spots it: there's the tiniest, faintest offshoot of magic, wending its way away from the grave and into the Gods Wood itself. A clue so small, she very nearly missed it entirely. Stirred, Peridot hops to her feet, rushing to follow it. This time, she barely even notices the grave stench as she runs past.

---------

A dismantled shrine. That’s what it leads to. Just past the tree line, obscured by foliage, Peridot practically starts vibrating with excitement when she pushes aside the brush and spots it. It’s in a state of ruin, but she can see the remnants of… Offerings, perhaps? Items scattered among the wreckage. She snaps a quick pic with her compass and then kneels to start pawing through the wreckage, taking inventory of her findings. A broken sword hilt, caked in dried blood... A peculiar medal, also covered in blood... Another broken sword hilt? Surprise, covered in blood. And…

Fingers? There are fingers. Peridot recoils slightly and makes another disgusted noise, lamenting the number of times she’s had to touch dead human touch stumps in this one day alone. What the hell kind of god would want fingers as an offering, she’s not sure she wants to know? There’s three of them in total, and they are also (unsurprisingly) soaked in blood. When she has everything gathered she lays all these items side by side, cocking her head, trying to think if there's any commonality that ties them all together. Is there a theme here? Aside from being taken from conquered enemies, she can't really see one. In fact, the only similarity between them all, is that they all have the same bizarre engraving on them. It's crudely made, featuring what looks like... a crown, being struck by a bolt of lightning? Peridot certainly doesn’t recognize it, but she’s guessing the Priestess might.

Perhaps the meaning of that is best researched later. She's aware she needs to keep moving, having plenty of information to take back to the Priestess now. With the shrine thoroughly examined, she pulls some of the cloth wrappings from her bag and starts gingerly wrapping up all the clues she can, to bring back as evidence. She even packs up the grody severed fingers, placing all three of them in one cloth and tying it up into a tiny bindle. She’s not sure what use severed digits might be, but it makes more sense to her mind that she bring them along, rather than leave them behind. Even if they are disgusting, and will probably make her satchel smell bad.

One last cursory search of the area surrounding the shrine leads to one final clue: the charred remains of a uniform, in the colors of a soldier from the Court of Stars. She wonders... Was it a disguise? Why would someone disguise themselves in such a manner? Was it to trick the envoy? Was it to trick other soldiers? She's not sure just yet. She takes another picture of the site, and nabs a sample to bring back with her as well. She thinks her word is worth quite a lot, but it's always better to provide physical evidence when it's available.

She makes haste back to Moon territory after that. Peridot gets word to the Priestess as soon as she’s able, insisting on providing-- in person-- the most thorough report she can offer. She turns over all evidence as well: the scraps of charred clothing, the shrine offerings, and the pictures of all the relevant sites. Perhaps most importantly, she hands over the map she was gifted at the start of her quest. She’d made sure to annotate it as she went, marking the locations of noteworthy information. Most notably: The crossroads are circled. From there, there’s an arrow pointing in the direction of the trail that she did not follow, and a line tracing along the path of the one that she did. She has even circled the approximate location of the grave site, as well as the locations of the dismantled shrine and the burned clothing within the Gods Wood.

The Priestess can do with this info what she will, but Peridot will give her conclusion to her straight: There's someone out there who is trying very hard to ensure that the war continues unimpeded.

    HISTORY: Wiki Link!

    PERSONALITY:
If I had to distill Peridot's whole personality down to a single catchy sentence, it would be "horrible little tech goblin with a heart of gold." She has what one might call a ‘strong’ personality, in that she tends to be loud, blunt, abrasive, and doesn’t always think about her words before she opens her mouth. Energetic and passionate (often to the point of obsession), Peridot rarely does things in a manner that can be described as anything less than "turned up to 11". She's the kind of person who falls into her various hobbies and interests with an obsessive tenacity, doing things like watching a single episode of a TV show she likes over and over and over for a full 24 hours straight and launching into making extravagant and detailed shipping charts based off of that minimal content. In a single word, she's... Eccentric.

Peridot's early days with the Crystal Gems were full of a lot of hurt feelings and misunderstandings due to her previously sheltered life and general lack of socialization. She would spew out offensive and bigoted opinions without a second thought, and then fail to grasp why people would react to the things she said with anger. Largely this was because she spent the first several thousand years of her life doing nothing but working day in and out in isolation as a technician, conforming obediently to Homeworld’s rigid societal rules. As a result, she was poorly socialized, and never really learned how to factor unpredictable forces such as emotion and sentiment into her perception of the world. Letting such things cloud one’s own sense of objectivity was something that her leader Yellow Diamond was supposedly immune to, and like a good homeworld gem Peridot modeled her own behavior after her idol. Because of this, she had a hard time empathizing with people on Earth, and in the beginning she even lacked the proper terminology with which to discuss her own feelings. (We see this very early on in the episode "Too Far" when she tries to explain her feelings of frustration and guilt to Steven)

This isn’t quite as much of an issue now as it was when she first came to Earth; she is far more mindful of other people’s feelings now, and has a better sense of when to keep her thoughts to herself. Her roots as a scientist and engineer are at least partially to thank for this, as her previous job still informs her approach to problem solving, and the way she navigates the world. She’s always assessing new things and new situations carefully, and has zero shame about asking an endless number of questions. This is likely how she was able to adapt to life on Earth so quickly (compared to say, Lapis or Jasper), despite arriving there as an alien who was completely naive of the world outside her own tiny personal sphere. Peridot is keenly observant and seems to learn things by example, copying the mannerisms and actions of others (she picks up a LOT of habits and speech quirks from Amethyst in particular), and trying new things out for herself whenever she gets the chance. She has a curious mind, is eager to learn and picks up on patterns and learns new skills very quickly (if you're a musician, for a frustrating example of this just look to the episode "It Could've Been Great" and watch how absurdly fast she picks up an understanding of musical theory).

In some ways, this is all still a bit unnatural to her, and more often than not she’ll fall back on her intellect before her emotions when it comes to tackling a high pressure situation. Besides, old habits die hard; experience has cured some of her naivete, but you can’t really fix stubbornness, which is something Peridot has in spades. While she has gained a capacity for teamwork over the course of the series, she still very much has her own way of doing things and isn’t afraid to make that known through petty tantrums and arguments. That "objectivity above all else" world view still rears it's ugly head sometimes, and she tends to hold the view that, until proven otherwise, everything in the world has a “correct” path of simple cause to effect. This pretty much always lines up with how SHE would do something, and she can get pretty rankled real quick if something does not meet her expectations or give her the results she wants.
She applies this philosophy to social interactions as much as anything else, and it took her a while to understand that there’s not really a “correct” way to, say, react to a joke or an apology.

Peridot also has a proclivity for egotistical and self-aggrandizing behavior, often talking herself up or over-selling herself by using self-descriptors such as “precious” or “powerful” or “valuable”. It used to be that she’d focus on her own needs to the exclusion of everyone else’s, but now she knows how to strike a better balance and put her friend’s interests close to—or even sometimes above-- her own. She still talks herself up quite frequently though, usually in a manner that strangers will find grating or off-putting. It’s arguable that a lot of this behavior comes from her upbringing on Homeworld, where a gem’s usefulness and rarity determines their social standing. Additionally, Peridot is an “era 2” gem, meaning she was created during a time when her home planet was operating under a shortage of the resources needed to create new members of their race. This lack of available material accounts for her small size and lack of natural gem powers, and it’s possible her habit of bragging is a method of justifying her existence in some way, compensating for her physical shortcomings by attempting to highlight her cleverness and great intellect.

This may also similarly influence her attachment to material belongings; she has been shown to be extremely possessive of her things such as her limb enhancers and tech, because she considers those things a large part of her identity; in “Too Short to Ride”, she blurted out that “(tech is) all that I am” when Amethyst tried to wreck the new tablet that Steven got for her. This shows a severe lack of confidence underneath that veneer of ego, which is kind of tragic? But also like... On the other hand. One of her favorite activities is flaunting her knowledge for the sole purpose of showing off how much smarter she is than most people, and making them feel dumb. THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION, she literally admitted this to Amethyst and Steven (in the episode "Back to the Kindergarten"), because she is horrible.

So, that's a lot about her weaknesses and flaws. But what about that "heart of gold" part?

While Peridot can be abrasive, she really doesn't have a single cruel (metaphorical) bone in her entire hard-light body. She's caring and passionate, and she has grown to be an extremely loyal and dependable friend. Even if she’s averse to saying it outright, she shows how much she loves her friends through her actions; she loves to clown around and try to cheer them up with her ridiculous antics (literally bending over backwards to make Lapis laugh) and bad jokes. She cares a LOT about what her friends think of her (ex: she was extremely upset when Amethyst was mad at her for making jokes at her expense in “Too Far”, and Lapis leaving at the end of “Raising the Barn” utterly devastated her, launching her into an extreme depression that took ages for her to get over). She is very considerate of Lapis’s past trauma and tries to be protective of her, admonishing her other friends for treading too close to triggering topics. The ending of “Hit the Diamond” also showed us that she is willing to put herself in harm’s way to defend her loved ones, as she tried to surrender herself to the Rubies in order to get them to lay off the others. “Raising the Barn” lent further credit to this courageous streak, as Peridot was extremely reluctant to leave Earth behind when it seemed like it would soon be under immediate threat from the Diamonds. Lapis wanted to turn tail and hide, but Peridot was determined to stay and fight and defend what they’d already created there.

    ABILITIES/SKILLS:
    Passive abilities:
•Doesn’t age (bc gems are bullshit immortals)
•Very sturdy, with a high damage threshold (even by gem standards). Like all gems she also has the ability to release her physical form when injured and return to her gem to recuperate. Essentially, she can’t be permanently harmed or killed unless her gem is directly damaged, and it takes quite a bit of damage to force her to dissipate her form.

    Active abilities:
•Can generate translucent green bubbles around dormant gems (and other objects) and teleport them to a set location.
•Metallokinesis. She can move metal objects with her mind, which lets her do ludicrous things like fly around on a hovering garbage can lid. The heavier the item, the more effort it takes for her to enact her will upon. She has been steadily improving her skills over the course of the series; by the time SU the Movie rolls around, she’s able to hold back a significant amount of collapsing scaffolding, and it's implied that she lifts Spinel's giant injector at least part way out of the ground.

    Regular skills:
•An exceedingly fast learner who is extremely good at memorizing patterns and lists. She picks up on most new skills with ease, and creative problem solving is a strong suit of hers.
•Familiarity with, and the ability to create, extremely advanced technology. She’s a natural born engineer, so past knowledge combined with natural skill for tinkering and figuring out how things work means she can understand new tech very quickly.
•Horticultural knowledge. She and Lapis started a farm together, and by SU Future Peridot is running a massive greenhouse full of all kinds of plants and teaching other gems how to care for them.
•Artistic. She loves to make weird abstract installation art, specifically, but she also enjoys comedy and performance. Basically she’s just a weird little savant.

    INVENTORY/COMPANIONS:
    •No companions
•Electronic tablet; this is like, the only thing that Peridot consistently carries around with her. It’s an iPad thing that Steven gave to her, and she loves it.

    FACTION CHOICE:
    Moon Temple!

    REASON:
If I'm being honest, I could make a strong case for Peridot being in either faction, but I think she's a more natural fit for the Moon Temple at heart. While she's an extremely creative (and often impulsive) individual, logic and reason are the foundations of how she has learned to interact with the world and she's typically not really prone to acting on her gut alone. Given the proper room to breathe, she likes to ask questions, and gather data and information to better understand the world around her. When it comes to playing the long game, she's much more about planning ahead and creating a solid plan of attack before moving forward. That isn't to say she's INCAPABLE of pulling out the stops when the situation calls for it, because she can and she will; it's just not her typical MO.

    TATTOO:
First Quarter Moon, on the back of her left hand.

    SUITABILITY:
Peridot has no fear of fighting when it comes to protecting the things she loves, and while she'd probably have a ton of questions for the traveler deity (and just be questioning everything in general because that's just how she do), she'll commit without hesitation if it means saving her world. Though she lacks actual experience with full-scale war, she's very proud of her status as a Crystal Gem rebel, to the point where it kind of gives her a lot of unearned confidence? So. Getting her to agree to a fight would not be a hard sell.

As for how she'd contribute once she's actually there, things will admittedly get a bit more complicated. If she makes ANY friends on while neutral turf who happen to be in the Court of Stars, she will start to question why this problem needs to be solved with more fighting, and she will become pretty insistent on trying (or at the very least discussing) more peaceful solutions. She's also going to have a lot of questions about the metaphysical forces that are causing the decay of Fellden (and by extent, all of the player worlds), and will want to understand how the war ties into it.

Though she's pretty scrappy and does not back down from a challenge (even when it would be in her own best interest to do so), Peridot would do best contributing to the effort somewhere OFF the battlefield. Analyzing data and brainstorming creative solutions are more in her wheelhouse than punching/stabbing is.

    Character Information

    Name: Peridot
    Canon: Steven Universe
Canon Point: Steven Universe: The Movie
Age: Several thousand years old (not specified)
    History: https://steven-universe.fandom.com/wiki/Peridot/History
    Personality:

    1. Analytical -- Or logical, detail oriented, creative and intelligent. Peridot’s roots as a scientist and engineer inform her approach to problem solving, and the way she navigates the world. She’s always assessing new things and new situations carefully, and has zero shame about asking an endless number of questions. This is arguably how she was able to adapt to life on Earth so quickly, despite arriving there as an alien who was naive about anything that took place outside her extremely tiny sphere working as a gem kindergartener. She is keenly observant and seems to learn things by example, copying the mannerisms and actions of others and trying new things out for herself whenever she gets the chance. She has a curious mind, is eager to learn and picks up on patterns and learns new skills very quickly.

    2. Obsessive -- When Peridot gains a new interest, she falls into it hard. “Moderation” is not a word that’s in her vocabulary, and her peculiar and often intense behavior has been a source of frustration for many of her friends. A lot of gems generally seem rather prone to having what one might call addictive personalities, but Peridot really takes the cake. When she latches onto something, it results in questionable life choices such as: Watching a single episode of a TV show over and over for 24 hours straight, analyzing every detail and drawing conclusions about “subtext” from it; making detailed and extravagant shipping charts and diagrams based off of her findings from watching said TV episode; in one of the comics, she learned the ins and outs of a new fighting game over the course of a mere few days, picking a main and subsequently learning how to perfectly counter nearly every other character in the game. It just gets real intense, real fast.

    3. Bossy, egotistical and stubborn -- While she has gotten by on Earth by being curious and (ultimately) adaptable, Peridot tends to hold the view that, until proven otherwise, everything has a “correct” path of simple cause to effect. This pretty much always lines up with how SHE would do something, and she can get pretty rankled real quick if something does not meet her expectations or give her the results she wants. This applies to social interactions as much as anything else, and it took her a bit to understand that there’s not really a “correct” way to, say, react to a joke or an apology. She can be extraordinarily short tempered, particularly when she does not get her way, and she really loves to talk herself up and inflate how important she is. Some of this behavior is arguably a coping mechanism meant to help compensate for a deeply ingrained lack of self-worth, born of existing in a society where she constantly had to justify the cost of the resources spent to create her. But also like... On the other hand. One of her favorite activities is flaunting her knowledge for the sole purpose of showing off how much smarter she is than most people. This is not an exaggeration, she literally says as much in the show, because she is horrible.

    4. Courageous/Foolhardy -- Peridot is extraordinarily loyal to both her friends and her adopted home planet, Earth. It’s no surprise then that we have seen her throw herself in harm's way to protect what she holds dear on multiple occasions. Interestingly, this is a trait that she has visibly gained over the course of the show, since when she first appeared as an agent of Yellow Diamond she was shown to be very cautious and cowardly. As a Crystal Gem, she has repeatedly stood up against all manner of threats ranging from moderate to major, including the Ruby Squad, Jasper, and both Blue and Yellow Diamond. However, these acts of courage are not always well advised. As she has gained confidence and become less frightened of the world, these displays of bravado seem to be, at least in some small part, something she does out of a sense of ego. She rushes into things impulsively and mocks her op++ponents. “Reunited” was a peak example of this: Peridot calling Yellow Diamond names and trying to challenge her one-on-one had the exact energy of a ballsy chihuahua facing down a raging bull.

    5. Energetic/Impulsive -- Or loud, abrasive, and generally just A Lot. She has what someone might call a ‘strong’ personality, if they were trying to be kind about it. Peridot has a history of being extremely intense, occasionally to the point where her antics can even wear out ‘living bastion of patience’ Steven Quartz Universe. She breaks things, she steals things, she pulls dangerous weapons out of dumpsters and throws tantrums and hisses at people and climbs on things she shouldn’t and JUST, generally, has the capacity to be a source of utter chaos. To be completely fair, she HAS dialed this back significantly over time (IE she’s no longer like this 24/7), since she has gotten socialized and learned a whole bunch about manners. However, the capacity for “gremlin mode” still exists within her somewhere, waiting to be activated with the right provocation.

    6. Compassionate, LOVES HER FRIENDS, but also lives and dies on their approval -- Loyalty seems like an odd trait for a character whose major defining moment involves betraying the leader she was created to serve, but wow! Peridot loves her friends! Even if she’s averse to saying it outright, she shows how much she cares through her actions. She loves to clown around and try to cheer them up with her antics, and as mentioned above, she will even actively risk her own well-being to protect them, even in situations where she’s utterly terrified. The darker side of this is that she does not cope well with rejection or disapproval from the people who matter most to her. This is demonstrated a few times over the course of the show, but by far the most extreme example of this is how much Lapis leaving her behind at the end of “Raising the Barn” utterly devastates her. After months of being convinced that Lapis needed her friendship and support to survive, being rejected so thoroughly launched Peridot into a deep depression that took ages for her to come out of. Perhaps it’s not too surprising that, after existing for thousands of years in a society that constantly espoused the importance of being useful, she has filled that void in her day-to-day motivation with ‘needing to be needed’ by her friends.

Where and how did your character enter the Hedge?
There was no particularly spectacular or dramatic lead up. She was just checking up on corn fields outside Little Homeworld, when she discovered an invasive presence: Tendrils of horrible wicked thorns creeping into her rows of well-tended crops, uprooting all her hard work. She was furious, and tried to trace the tendrils back to the source, but the brambles just got thicker and more plentiful as she progressed and by the time she realized she was in over her head, it was far too late to escape.

    Additional Memories Lost:

    Skillsets:
  • Engineering/Tech.
  • It’s what she was made to do. Faeries may not have much in the way of super advanced technology, but Peridot excels at creative problem solving and figuring out new systems.
  • Geology/Mineralogy.
  • Which sounds extremely dumb but like, she literally used to grow gems?? She knows a lot about minerals and soil quality.
  • Agriculture/Horticulture.
  • This is a passion of hers that she picked up on Earth. She can raise both food-bearing crops and maintain beautiful gardens.

    Inventory:
  • Tablet
...That’s it, she doesn’t really ever carry anything else with her.

    (no subject)

The whole point of a bond is to benefit both witch and monster. It's supposed to minimize the monster's feral impulses, make them easier to resist.

This is the first full moon she and Lapis have shared since they became bonded, and Peridot is not sure she's feeling any of those benefits yet. She feels just as agitated as ever, just as on edge. She's lurking up in her room, a victorian bedroom turned out of control greenhouse, pacing back and forth in front of the bedroom window as she keeps a mindful eye on her hoard of plants. She'd contacted Lapis by Watch, asked her to come up to keep her company. Which is frankly an embarrassing request to have to make, but for some reason it's the only thing that she can think that would make her feel any better right now.

Her eyes keep flicking to the door, ears pricked up for the sound of footsteps. It's totally dark in the room except for the moonlight filtering in through the bay window.

    Physical Changes
    Traits:
    • Sharp fangs
    • Spiny expressive ears that look sort of like fish fins
    • A long, flicky forked tongue like a komodo dragon. Retains it's canon blue-purple color.
    • Clawed fingers
    • A thick "sausage" shaped tail with a sharp barb on the end, reminiscent of a parasitoid wasp or a Buzz neopet
    • Minimal scale coverage; mostly around the back (trailing up from the tail) and on the face, around the eyes and cheeks.
Notes: Peridot is still not thrilled by the prospect of having her form altered in such a dramatic way, but she is coping with the changes by leaning into the status of being a "rare" monster type.
    Psychological Changes
    Traits:
    • Hoarding instinct expresses itself through a penchant for houseplants. She has started turning her room into a makeshift greenhouse.
    • Despises the cold, goes to great lengths to avoid it.
    • Increased temper, she may not be a fire dragon but she has a much shorter fuse.
Notes: Mental changes are, so far, minimal. The most problematic of them is the hoarding, but it's manageable as no one violates her space or threatens her plants.
    Full Moon Changes
    Traits:
    • Extremely increased temper, shortened fuse. Much more protective of hoard.
Notes: Talk about their typical experiences with the full moon and any other related things.
