Peridot's words take the wind out of her self loathing sails almost immediately, because it's true. She is trying to scare Peridot off because of the exact reason stated. She shifts, uncomfortable in the situation, but unable to really escape again and have time to adjust to it.

Which means she's mostly left to deal with this situation head on, isn't she?
